1:Introduction
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is Samsung’s newest flagship, but it’s more representative of the Galaxy Note than it is of the Galaxy S lineup. In many ways, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the device that any Galaxy Note fan has been waiting for as it combines the very best of Samsung’s traditional smartphone lineup into a device that has it all. And as Samsung has confirmed, moving forward, the Note line will be represented by the S Ultra line, and that makes a lot of sense.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is definitely going to be one of the most expensive phones launched in 2022, but it’s actually rather good value for money if you get the version with 12GB of RAM. The base model has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage which no one should buy, but the other versions come with 12GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage. The sweet spot for most people is most likely 256GB storage, which costs $1299.
2:Camera
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra offers the same imaging options as last year's model. For reference, that's a 12MP ultra-wide camera; a 108MP main camera that mostly shoots 12MP photos with nine-pixel binning; a 10MP 3x zoom, and a 10MP 10x zoom on the back. There's also a 40MP front-facing camera that mostly shoots 10MP photos using four-pixel binning. The phone captures up to 8K videos through the primary camera, and 4K videos through the front camera.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is among the best phones you can buy if your budget stretches to it. It has a fantastic-looking display, a powerful chipset, and comes with a useful stylus for extra functions. Its real strength is in the photography department though, as it’s the best Android camera phone on the market. If you’re a mobile photographer it’s a must-buy, but for everyone else, you might find its high price tag or giant size just too much to handle.
The Samsung S22 ultra is easy to use and has a lot of the features that people look for in a phone.
The S22 Ultra is expensive, and unless you have a specific need for the S Pen or the big display, the S22 Plus will serve you just fine. The regular S22 is an awesome phone as well, but its battery life could fall short of your expectations if you push it hard. Note that Samsung phones are almost always available with some attractive bundles or offers, so you should save a bit of money that way — check out the best GalaxyS22 deals and trade-in values for this.
3:Review
1: I enjoy using the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and it's nice to carry a phone that can handle anything I could ever throw at it. Although, you probably shouldn't buy one at this exact moment. As of today, the pre-order bonuses are gone, and that makes the Ultra a less compelling deal at $1,200. You should wait for a couple of weeks and see if Samsung offers some better discounts.
2:It might not have the wow factor of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, but don't make the mistake of overlooking the Galaxy S22 Plus. It's every bit a premium device and outperforms its siblings in some key areas. The Galaxy S22 Plus is one of Samsung's very best and the top Android phone to beat for those who don't need a stylus.
3:The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is among the best phones you can buy, if your budget stretches to it. 4:For someone who does plan to make regular use of its powerful but rather niche features, the S22 Ultra will be a phone like no other on the market. Some UI quirks remain, and battery life is disappointing. But if you can live with these shortcomings and navigate the sometimes steep learning curve of the S Pen life, then you’ll be well rewarded with a device that’s truly one of a kind.
4:Overall Review
1:Going into this review, I had my doubts about how good the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra camera was going to be. The reason was that I’ve built up my hype around Samsung’s camera promises before, only to be let down. I fully expected that the camera wouldn’t live up to its promise, and I am so very glad that I was sorely mistaken; simply put, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is better than anything else I’ve tried and is going to take some beating.
2:A photo of the review's author was taken with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra’s main camera. Antonio Villas-Boas/Insider For the Samsung S22 Ultra's cameras, Samsung made a big deal about nighttime photography. All the premium phones we've tested in the latest release cycle take good nighttime shots, but the Samsung S22 series does seem to produce slightly better results.
3:All of that aside. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra camera, like many other Android cameras, is chocked full of features. Most people won’t use most of them, but again, they are good options. Here are some features to expect from the cameras on this smartphone.
4:The Galaxy S22 Ultra isn’t a phone for everyone, but it’s the best phone for almost everybody. It’s big and heavy, even though it does feel much lighter than the Galaxy S21 Ultra which weighs the same but is top-heavy, versus the even weight distribution in the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The curved screens aren’t for everyone, and if you’re in a region where you get the Exynos flavor, there are plenty of performance concerns that aren’t present in the Snapdragon version I’ve been testing.
5:Overall, these three months of using the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra for this review have been a great experience for me. Yes, it does have a BIG, boxy design that might not be everyone’s cup of tea. But if you can disregard that, and you’re looking to get the best Android smartphone money can buy, this one’s certainly the best choice and I will totally recommend it.
